ABB LV Systems in Västerås is using Ides elMaster as the tool for electrical engineering. Since the 1940s, the company has delivered factory assembled low-voltage switchgears and control equipment. They offer high flexibility in the lowvoltage switchgear MNS system. The system combined with standardized modules, results in perfect solutions for every application.

Intelligent programmable switchgears

Recently, more electronics have been introduced in the ABB switchgear series, with programmable products as a result. ABB has named these programmable products intelligent switchgears. Thanks to the brilliancy of these apparatus, you get information about the state of the engine, how long the engine has been run, how many times it has been switched on and off or if it has been overloaded. The information can be used for improved preventive maintenance; the number of unplanned stoppages can be reduced and plant life can be increased.

elMaster – a strong customer requirement

Thanks to elMaster, ABB LV Systems can deliver high quality documentation to their customers, have more effectiveness in the daily design work which in practice means e.g. saved time. In order to meet their customers’ demands on documentation of the deliveries, ABB LV Systems’ use of elMaster is of great benefit. In an investigation made by ABB where the customers were interviewed, it appeared that it was an enormously strong customer requirement that LV Systems should use elMaster in their design work. The customers required dwg-drawings, which ABB thanks to elMaster can deliver.

– Using elMaster give LV Systems and our customers a win-win situation; we can deliver more or less completed material, and the customers do not have to make any redesign, says Nils-Olof Eriksson, responsible for market communication at ABB LV Systems.

Encourages suppliers to use elMaster

– If we had the opportunity to propose something to any of our suppliers, we would recommend them to use elMaster already at the creation of symbols and the article database, that would mean a lot of time saved for us, says Ann-Katrin Mälström, system development and project leader at ABB LV Systems.

Previously at ABB LV Systems, they used a tendering tool from which they fetched automatic generations of drawings. Circuit diagrams, single line diagrams, block diagrams …
This process was however not intelligent; they started with dxf-drawings, which were then converted into dwg-drawings. This was not an optimal way of working, so it was time to make a change.

The designers at LV Systems have worked with automatic generation of documents for many years. And when it was time to update the design system, this function also became a requirement on the new system. Since the company has a great deal of small orders, the drawing must be quick.

–You do not have the time to create all the drawings from scratch; they must be generated automatically when creating the switchgear. This was a problem, and this is where Ides and Master concept came into the picture. And thanks to the ADG solution we will be able to configure our products in order to customize them, says Ann-Katrin.
